Dog eat dog.

I wonder why some people say 'it's a dog eat dog world' when it's more often than not man eating man and very rarely a dog?

    If possible, I would rather have dogs around me, rather than people most days.

    Hmmmm...true. It seems like dogs are getting a bad rap in this old saying, when they tend to be much kinder than many a human.
