A Quiet Day.

There isn't much to report today, all's quiet on the 'western front' whatever that's supposed to mean. The weather has cooled down again considerably compared to what it was like this time last week, there was even a threat of snow a couple of times during the morning but the sun came out after lunch so it felt quite a bit warmer.

I've spent all day digging. I cleared what was left of the Parsnips so this left me with room to turn over more of the veg plot after which I made a start on tidying the west shrub border, taking out any stray weeds, clipping the lawn edging and then picking over the soil in amongst the shrubs. It would be nice if I could cover the ground with a good layer of mulch but I don't have enough for that so break up the soil to make life easier this coming summer I just loosened up the surface a little. I don't know if I will get it finished tomorrow, I somehow doubt it.

Today I added a gadget to my sidebar which links my Twitter account to my blog, it shows the last two Twitters posts, I thought it may be fun to add bits from my day before I get to post them on here properly.

As there is nothing much else to say I will post a little video of Tommy looking for squirrels during our evening walk.

Ominous Letter.

I have just received an ominous looking letter from the police regarding Vicki's car. That's not to say that there is any trouble, I don't know until I talk to Vicki if this letter and form are to be expected but to me any contact with the police is ominous. A police car parked up minding its own business is ominous to me, one in full flight with lights blazing and sirens wailing attending someone elses misfortune sends me on the run.

Why is it so difficult

The other day I ordered an adapter to join two monitor cables. I needed a 15 pin so I ordered a 15 pin, I even looked at the picture which showed a 15 pin adapter, but guess what arrived this morning? A 9 pin!!! I know it only cost a few pence and it can no doubt be returned for the proper one but that's not the point is it. It seems the more educated we all become the more stupid we are, I mean lets face it a child of five would most likely be able to tell the difference between 9 and 15 for goodness sake.

When Your Number's Up.

This morning as I left for work I noticed the front number plate was missing from Vicki's car. It wasn't until I went round and looked at the rear of the car that we realised that they must have been stolen because even though they are only attached by sticky tape (Its a French car) you wouldn't expect them to both drop off at the same time so one has to assume they were deliberately taken off by someone. So as they were stolen you also have to assume that they are wanted for something other than ornaments for the mantle piece so Vicki phoned the police to let them know that if her car was reportedly seen speeding away from the scene of a bank robbery it probably wasn't her but the thieving gits who took her number plates. She was told that she needed to inform the DVLA (the vehicle licensing people) which she did only to be informed that the car was not in our name but that of the dealer where we bought it from which means either they never sent off the paperwork or the DVLA have lost it. Either way we now have to redo the paperwork and then wait up to six weeks for the registration document to come through before we can get new plates unless we can find a place that doesn't bother about paperwork. Apparently it might also cost us some money to get new papers although I'm not sure how much. Of course both Evans Halshaw who is the dealer we bought the car from and the DVLA are blaming each other so goodness knows what will happen next. Its a bit annoying to have our car stuck in the garage for six weeks just because someone else has messed up the paperwork. The trouble with this country is that it gets to November and all anyone can think about are the office party and how much time off they can wangle over Christmas, it doesn't matter that they are still responsible for doing a job of work.
Also we have had trouble with Zurich insurance company over the house that we own. This is not to be confused with the fiasco over the flood involving the Co-Op insurance. This new issue is to do with the insurance of our own property. As far as we were concerned we paid our dues in November when it was time but then we got an letter the other day saying that the property insurance was well over due and needed to be paid immediately. So Vicki phoned them to give them what for and the woman took the details of our debit card which we paid with but because of our current cash flow problem I said I would need to pay in on my credit card as there is no money in the bank so she gave me the phone and I did business with a guy. Unknown to me at some point the woman who had been speaking to Vicki had passed the phone to someone else and so we ended up giving them two lots of payment details and before you know it from going all winter with no cover on the house because someone somewhere had messed up AGAIN we had now paid twice! Thankfully they have sorted that out and we have now only paid once but really tonight I am so close to having a Victor Meldrew moment.

Thieves have struck again.

This morning as we were leaving for work we noticed that someone has stolen the number plates from both the front and rear of Vicki's car. I won't say what I want to do with them.

SINGLE BLACK FEMALE seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me... Call 01272-6420** and ask for Annie, I'll be waiting.....

Night out.

Yesterday was my brother in laws birthday so tonight me and Vicki have traveled to Derbyshire to go out to dinner with the family. We went to a pub at Monyash, I had plaice and chips with salad and tartar sauce. We are just having a cup of tea with my parents before traveling home.

Heatwave 2.

Its the hottest day of the year and what am I doing? Digging! I must be barmy. Today the temperature rose by another 2 degrees to 13C. If it keeps going up like this I will be planting the Dahlia's out next week.

The Tree (January).

My pruning plans went a bit awry today due to heavy rain in the morning. I'm not overly disappointed as I was able to prune the grape vines, climbing Fuchsia and Plumbago in the conservatory instead. I also got the place swept out ready for giving the walls and floor a clean and disinfect some time soon.

As with yesterday I took another two and a half hours from the overtime I worked over the Christmas period.

I've decided to include a little project on my blog this year and this is to post a picture take from the same place every month in the hope that it will be interesting to see how the view changes.

I won't apologise for the quality of the picture, it was taken on a dark January evening and I think the picture says as much which after all is the whole point in doing it.

Let There Be Light.

I’ve been meaning to show you this for a while now but never got round to it so I am going to show you tonight come what may.
To make this you need a small torch (flashlight), two rubber bands and your dogs collar.

You then assemble them so that they look like so…

And there you have a neck torch for your dog.

I know that you can buy lights to fit your dogs collar or even collars that light up and I was going to buy one for Tommy but after playing around with this I decided that it works better than the bought ones so I’m not going to bother. Apart from showing me where he is and because the light shines where he is looking which might be of little use to Tommy but with him being a nosey dog and always looking to see what I’m doing it comes in real handy because he shines the light and I have both hands free do the work.

TV and Dinner Day.

Today has been a very lazy day for me, I seem to be having a lot of lazy days of late. I've spent a good part of it watching TV We've watched four movies, one was Terry Prachett's going postal then there was Fantastic Mr Fox I slept through quite a bit of that. We also watched an action movie which I don't know the name of and we just finished the day watching a drama telling the story of Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise's formative years For those that don't know Eric and Ernie were a popular English double act.

I guess the only other highlight of the day worthy of a mention was the dinner that Vicki cooked. It was roast chicken with all the trimmings, like another Christmas dinner it was. So I was pretty stuffed after that, there was even plenty left for the dogs to enjoy a new year roast chicken dinner.
