No Where Else

I haven't posted on here for a while because I have been busy setting up another farm. I know I was going to stick with Chellington but I came across a couple of other maps that took my fancy. On these maps all the land is virgin ground meaning it's not been cultivated. Usually when you take to a place there is a mix of cropping land, grass land and land ready for sowing. On these particular maps you have to start by ploughing the land before sowing the crops, there is nothing to harvest therefore all you have to start with is the old default machinery and $6000, no crops to harvest means nothing to sell until you first sow and then reap. As I say there were two of these maps that took my fancy but I soon dismissed one as it was too basic, just a big block of flat land with a few dead straight tracks so I went for this map. http://www.ls-uk.info/downloads/5/9415 There is more land than I will be able to cultivate but with it all being grass nothing will hurt left the way it is.

So this past week I've been busy ploughing, sowing and reaping in a bid to get some cash to buy decent equipment. There are some big open spaces so I will need some good machinery to work the land. So far I have cultivated 3,5,6 and I'm in the process of ploughing and seeding field 2.

Making a start of ploughing field number 2.

Finished Field No.2

Today I managed to finish ploughing field No.2 and seeded most of it with Barley, that is what you can see growing on the right side of the picture, I've run out of seed Barley so will finish the rest of the field off with Canola.

I've also put in a track across field No.22 from the contractor yard to the bridge on the track to the look out, the reason for this is to save having to go round by the dairy when on the way to town with grain.

I bought another cow today, they are $25000 each and I now have 3. To get milk you have to feed them so I cut some grass and put it in the feed trough for them.

Jobs for Winter.

The garden thermometer reads 7C at the moment so its pretty cool for the time of year and wetter than a ducks foot, in effect its like Winter with weeds and leaves so I once again find myself looking for Winter type jobs for today. That in mind I think that today is a good day for tackling the long over due job of tidying up the potting shed yard, especially now that I've moved the compost and bins out of there. Already this morning I've completed the usual chores and turn the compost in the new bins so I think its time for a cup of tea and a ginger biscuit.

I Have The Power.

Last night I managed to finish up the harvest, I now have to bale up the straw and cart it to the farm.

Finishing the last few cuts of the harvest.

I had another run in with a car driver last night. It happened when I was moving the grain header to the next field. I was pulling out on to the road and because it's quite a long trailer I was trying not to get it wrapped round a gate post then this car pulls up and stops to let me out, or so I thought until he started doing that inching forward thing that they do. Eventually he was so close that I couldn't go forward without running over the front of his car so I stopped and was wondering if I could reverse back in to the field when he dropped the clutch and piled in to the side of the trailer tipping the darn thing over.
Well that left us in a right old pickle and no mistake, it's not like I could call the AA or anyone. What these guys don't seem to realise is that I have the power so I thought 'what the hell' and gave him some of his own medicine. See the short video below if you are interested in the out come.
After I got all the machinery back to the farm I went and bought some stuff to cart the bales in after the straw was baled. I wanted to use a conventional loader and trailer set up but after some experimenting decided against that idea. With practice I may have become half decent at loading the trailer but for sure at the moment I was struggling to place the bales in a reasonable way and it was taking ages so I opted of the Heath Super Chaser http://www.ls-uk.info/downloads/87/17148. To make this work I needed to change my New Holland baler for a different one because from what I read the one I had wasn't compatible. The Chased wouldn't have picked up the bales. While I was at the farm shop I saw a Ford TW35 which I couldn't resist http://www.ls-uk.info/downloads/22/10688. I will give a review of both Mods when I've used them.

A Tour Of Home Farm.

Theanne asked if the accident I showed the other day was there later on, I wondered the same thing myself at the time but when I returned later to harvest the Wheat there was no sign of the cars or the accident.

Today I thought I would show you around the farmyard.

This is the view from the door view from the door of the farmhouse.

This one if taken from the lane.

This is the tractor shed.

One of two implement sheds.

Grain Store

Another barn in which implements and  and such like can be housed.

Dutch Barn where straw is stored and shredded for cash in the shredder.

Manure pile and slurry storage tank.

One of two silage clamps.

Cow pasture, I have three cows so far.
Second silage clamp.
I hope you enjoy this little tour.

Traffic Calming

Theanne suggests I should have gone and pulled the two cars involved in the accident apart, I didn't think of that, to be honest if I had gone with the tractor I would have been tempted to drive over the lot of them, they do my head in. They are so erratic its unreal. I took the video today when taking a load of Wheat to the brewery.

I am continuing to harvest Wheat at the moment, I have four more fields to cut, the picture below is of the combine unloading in to the other trailer.

Fields of yellow.

I'm pleased to report that everything in the greenhouses was okay. During the winter months the its just as cold in the conservatory as it is outside during the night  but I think at this time of year with the sun being stronger it warms up the tile floor which then gives off some warmth during the night because in spite of the hard frost last night the temperature in the conservatory dropped no lower than 5C. This is still colder than I would have liked for the plants that are in there but it won't kill them.

Car Accident

I intended harvesting the three fields on the topside of the main road today so I took a walk through them early this morning just to check the lay of the land and all was well until I dropped back down to the road at the junction of the main road and the Mill Lane where I discovered an accident between two cars. This doesn't surprise me one bit as they all seem to drive like idiots. I was approaching a junction last night and one under took me on the grass verge! Anyway I hung around long enough to take this video but as no one seemed to going anywhere I headed off back home across the fields.

I'm up early this morning to watch the qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix, I sure hope it's worth it. While I've been snug and warm in bed the temperatures have dropped below freezing, I sure hope the plants I moved into the unheated conservatory are OK. I sure hope the heater in the greenhouse worked OK to protect all the seedlings.

New Holland Baler Video.

I did this video to go with the last post but I've been having trouble with my phone line so wasn't able to post until now. It will give an idea of how the baler works in the game, in the top centre of the screen is the bale counter, in the left corner is the control info panel for the baler and the tractor.

I know I said that I wasn't going to change my farm again and that I had settled for Kincraigie but last night I just happened to see another farm that I liked the look of and so I am giving it a go. It's called Chellington and is set in England so feels a bit more like home and has lots of unique features and nice scenery so I'm going to try and stay focused on this farm now, I will do some pictures and video's over the weekend.

I spent a couple of hours this morning clearing the rest of the plants from the bench in the hot house ready to fill with Petunia seedlings later today.

Moving Home

The first job today after the usual tasks is to move some plants from the greenhouse to the conservatory so as to make room for seedlings that I need to prick out in the near future. I won't spend all day at this job as I have some weeding to do later. I'm also taking a few cuttings and potting on anything in dire need. This it the first time I've been able to see some of the plants properly since I put them in the greenhouse last Autumn as they all tend to inter mingle in to one body. I think they do that to keep warm lol!

Back to work.

Its back to work for me today after the Easter holidays. One of the jobs for the first day back will be to install a new fountain pump in the lily pond. Its been without one for a while now so it will be nice to have it back as it does add something to that area of  the garden.

New Holland Baler.

At the weekend I managed to get the Wheat and Barley all harvested, baled up and carted away. I didn't have a baler so I had to go and buy this New Holland which works fine. It has an animated tail gate and pick up reel plus a bale counter which records total bales for all time and total bales for each field. It also makes all the right noises which I think is important for the enjoyment of the game.

I had a slight problem with the elevator on the East Peak Farms, I only managed to get 1 bale in about 5 attempts to actually make it to the top without falling off. Is it meant to take the big square bales? Anyway thankfully there is what seems to be a power generating plant that takes the bales for cash so apart from the previously mentioned ONE bale all the rest went in there.

Another problem I had was when loading bales on to a trailer. I would get some loaded on after a bit of a struggle and then whilst I went to get some more the ones already loaded on would fall off which was quite annoying. In the end I gave up on that and bought a self loading trailer, I would like to get the hang of loading on to a flatbed trailer though.

Later today I hope to harvest some corn, I will see how that goes. I'm farming two farms at the moment, East Peak Farms and Kincraigie. I don't want to farm more than one but can't make my mind up which one I like the best. I had four on the go at one time but decided that come Easter I had to settle for just one and then get some proper work done. I made the choice of Kincraigie but then relented as I also really like East Peak Farm. I would go with East Peak Farm if it didn't seem a bit lacking in some details so I think that maybe in time it would bug me to think I was missing out on some aspects of the game so I'm sort of going with Kincraigie and dabbling on and off with East Peak Farm.
If you want to take a look for yourself at either of the above farms this is the link for Kincraigie http://www.ls-uk.info/downloads/5/22969 and this is East Peak Farm http://www.ls-uk.info/downloads/5/22819

I will leave you with some pictures of the New Holland baler that I bought, if you want to download it also you will find it here http://www.ls-uk.info/downloads/34/17161

New For Old.

There are some maps that you can download for Farming Simulator 2011 that come with a good compliment of machinery but there are others that don't. One of my favourite maps called East Peak Farms comes with very old machinery, all of which needs replacing if you want to get some serious work done. Another thing is that quite often this machinery is located in some obscure place like the top of a mountain! So what I did instead of transporting a load of old machinery back to the farm was to go to the farm shop and sell if off where it was and replace it with some of the cheap Mods that I've been posting about.

What you start with on East Peak Farms.

So the point of this post is to show you what you can acquire to get you started. You can swap everything in the video above for that in the video below plus the $6000 allowance you are provided with when you start a career.
One more thing about this sort of map is that if you're new to the game you might have trouble locating the machinery by eye simply because its way out in the wilderness somewhere so the easy way to find it is to press the TAB key and it will straight away take you to a piece of machinery with an engine. Keep pressing the TAB button and it will cycle through all the machinery with an engine and usually the implements are all close by.

New Holland Combine Pack.

This is going to be my last post in this series of cheap machinery, I will post more in time but I have other stuff that I want to post about. Below is the the New Holland combine pack which can be found here http://www.ls-uk.info/downloads/53/16679

With the pack comes a New Holland combine, a grain header, corn header and header trailer. You can pick up the whole lot for an in game price of $13.

New Holland Combine with grain header fitted.

Corn header for the combine.
Header trailer.
I must warn you that something rather strange happened when I coupled the header trailer to the combine with the corn header loaded. I had already used the trailer to move the grain header with a tractor and it worked great but when coupled to the combine with the other header the trailer started spinning throwing the corn header up the farm shop yard. I don't know what cause it to do this.

Another thing that doesn't seem quite right is the length of time it takes for the tank to empty on the combine, it seems very slow. It's not a real problem with the way I play the game because I just leave it emptying in to a trailer while I take a full one filled previously to empty, by the time I return the tank has finished getting rid of the contents. Because of these faults I would probably only choose to use this combine because it's so affordable when you're first getting started in the game.
